Dr. Don Frazier
McMurry University
Donald S. Frazier is professor of history at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas.  He  is the award-winning author of three books on
the Civil War including Blood and Treasure, Cottonclads, and Fire in the Cane Field.  His other work includes serving as co-author
of Frontier Texas, Historic Abilene, Abilene Landmarks, and The Texas You Expect, and well as general editor of The U.S. and
Mexico at War.

In addition to his teaching duties, Frazier has been very involved in a variety of heritage and cultural tourism projects, including
consulting on the development of three museums, two research centers, a Mexican War battlefield, work on Civil War and frontier
heritage trails in Texas, New Mexico, and Louisiana, and work on historical projects in Europe and Mexico.  He also helped Abilene,
Texas achieve recognition as a Preserve America city and grant recipient.  He is the writer and director for the video Our Home, Our
Rights:  Texas and Texans in the Civil War, a winner of the Mitchell Wilder Award for Excellence in Publications and Media Design
from the Texas Association of Museums.

Frazier is also active in historic preservation projects.  He is currently serving as President and CEO of the McWhiney Foundation, a
Texas-based educational non-profit which, among its various activities, manages and preserves the Buffalo Gap Historic Village, a
museum that includes a collection of more than a dozen antique buildings.  He has served as a consultant with several
communities as they develop their heritage and cultural assets, and has been recognized for his efforts by numerous organizations
including the American Association for State and Local History, The Texas Historical Foundation, the Historical Society of New
Mexico, and the Louisiana Historical Association.  Frazier is also involved in two highly regarded history publishing enterprises,
State House Press and McWhiney Foundation Press.   

Dr. Frazier has received accolades and honors for his contributions to the historical dialogue in the United States.  He was chosen
for a military history fellowship at the United States Military Academy at West Point, attendance at the Air War College National
Security Forum, a fellowship at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, and is in high demand as a thinker, consultant, and speaker.  
Frazier is also an elected member of the prestigious Philosophical Society of Texas, the oldest learned organization in the state, as
well as the Texas Historical Foundation.

Derek Brown is the Director of Jazz Studies and an instructor in
saxophone and theory at Abilene Christian University. He grew up in
western Michigan and earned his Bachelor of Music at Hope College in
Holland, Michigan, double majoring in jazz and classical performance.
He received his Master of Music in jazz studies from the University of
Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

Mr. Brown has performed on saxophone in a wide range of musical
styles in many different venues over the past decade. From Cincinnati's
Blue Wisp jazz club to performances throughout the Midwest with his
jazz/bluegrass hybrid group Afterthought, he has performed in
ensembles that featured many well-known artists, including Arturo
Sandoval, Terri Lyne Carrington, Fred Hersch, John Fedchock, Marvin
Stamm, and Fred Sturm. He and his wife Rachel live in Abilene, TX.

& B.S. in Biology from Abilene Christian University (1998)

Returned to Abilene in 2005 as an Assistant Professor of
Biology at McMurry University specializing in Vertebrate
Biology and Ecology.  I have volunteered with Buffalo Gap
Historic Village as part of their Public History Program playing
vintage base ball with the Buffalo Gap Chips Vintage Base
Ball  Club (BGCVBBC).  Since 2007 I have served as the
coordinator/manager of the BGCVBBC.
Dr. Joel Brant

Baseball Historian
Came to Abilene in  1976,  as a military brat.  Graduated from
Abilene High School in 1987; Cisco Jr College in 1988 with a
nursing degree.  Worked as an LVN for over 20 yrs and 16 of
that with local physicians in Abilene.  Currently working with
Choice Medical Supply as their Marketing Director.

I have a wonderful 15 year old daughter who is at Cooper High
School, and we enjoy our Sunday mornings at Beltway Park.  I
enjoy hunting, traveling, golf, working out, and all the activities
that come with raising a teenager girl.

Disease prevention and improving public health is my personal
goal by bringing public awareness to a silent killer, Sleep Apnea.

Taylor County Sheriff Les Bruce gave us an overview of the Sheriff's Office operations
and what he has been able to accomplish since becoming sheriff earlier this year.  Sheriff
Bruce also talked about the costs involved in running the department, as well as his
efforts to increase manpower and salaries for his deputies and staff.

The lovely and always charming Donna Albus reminded us to "Keep Abilene Beautiful!"
Abilene ISD superintendent Dr. David Polnick talked about the
future of education in Abilene.  Dr. Polnick is retiring after this
school year.
